Clifford L Thomas III entered military service on March 30th, 1964 andserved until February 28th, 1970. He left with an Honorable Dischargeas a SP-5 or Executive Chef. He served in Fort Knox, KY and Germany.He was stationed at the USAREUR (United States Army Reserve, Europe)Patton Barracks, which was headquartered in Heidleburg, Germany.
He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal aswell as his Rifle Qualification medal. He also received a certificateof recognition for service during the Cold War.

Clifford L Thomas Jr entered the Marine Corps on November 26th, 1942and served until October 12th, 1945. He left with an HonorableDischarge as a Corporal in the Military Police. He served at theMarine Corps base in San Diego, CA and was transported to New Zealand,AU. His battalion supplemented the 2nd Marines Division, 3rdBattalion. He stayed there for 6 months before shipping out toparticipate in the attack on Tarawa.
During the battle he was wounded in the left ankle by gunfire in theafternoon on November 23, 1943. He also received additional woundsfrom shrapnel from a grenade. He was sent back to Pearl Harbor, HAand then to San Diego, CA on the U.S.S. Solace where he finally hadsurgery. He recuperated there and after he became an MP until hisdischarge. He received the Purple Heart, and the SharpshooterQualification, Expert Pistol Qualification, and Combat Action ribbonwith 1 battle star.It was also during this time that he received his ShellbackCertificate for crossing the Equator on the U.S.S. Mount Vernon.

Ella's cause of death was listed as End Stage Chronic Obstructive LungDisease and Respiratory Failure. She was cremated by the A.H. PetersFuneral home and her remains were mixed with her 2nd husband Herbert,who preceeded her in death. Their ashes were then spread over theirproperty outside of Manistique, MI in the Upper Penninsula.
