DAY 1 - Travel day. It took us about an 1 hour to travel to the campground from home. Abby came with us. The Myers came up later than us. Josh was worried about the air quality and was going to spend the weekend in the camper, but when we got to camp, the air and weather was WAY better than at home. There was wildfire smoke from Canada/Minnesota that caused our Air Quality Index to climb over 800!! The hazardous level is 300! It burned our throats to breath without masks. The campground has 2 entrances, only one was marked. If we go in the future, take the first entrance to check in. It is an older campground, and the sites are irregularly sized. Our site was between a seasonal and a tree. Our "yard" was quite small, the septic inlet was at the front of the site, which needed 3 hoses to reach. We used the new water pressure regulator on this trip and it stayed at 40psi. The new 1/4 turn ball valve under the island sink leaked because I did not tighten the hose clamp enough. After wrenching on it, the leak was stopped. We went for a walk with the dogs up to the camp store where Josh found a little library and then down to the beach area. It was quite sandy and it stretched ~100 yards. The hazy/smokey air prevented us from seeing very far out into Lake Huron. The playground park was outfitted with new equipment and was quite nice. We bought 2 squares of firewood to use at Scott and Erin's site since they had more space. Our site's firering was practically under the awning. The two downsides to the Myers' site was the close trees and a Mulberry tree that was dropping berries to be trod on and tracked every where. We stayed up till 11:30 drinking and having a good time.
DAY 2 - Josh, Jeani, and Abby went to the Port Sanilac Lighthouse so Josh could get some pictures. It is privately owned and had a nice little picket fence around it. A nice older couple stopped Josh to ask about the lighthouse and where they could find the stamp, if he knew. Josh told them that the stamp could be found at the Sanilac County Museum. Which was where Josh, Jeani and Abby went next. They thanked him and drove off. When the group made it to the museum the older couple was there and they asked about how he knew where to go and he talked to them for a while. The lady thanked Josh and told her husband that "that nice man was a wealth of knowledge!" Made Josh feel good to "do a good turn" for the day. Josh got his stamp as well. When we got back to camp, Jeani and Abby went to the craft fair/food truck extravaganza. Josh went to down to the beach to do some metal detecting. He didn't find any treasure, but he did find a nail, a wire, and two flat pieces of rusted metal. A young couple asked Josh if he found anything, he showed them the junk, and they thanked him for keeping the beach clean and safe! A bad storm threatened to ruin the day, but it went south of us and instead it hit Blake's Apple Orchard, and destroyed the Lavender Fest! Later on, we all retired to our camps, Josh read and napped, Jeani did her cross stitch, Abby and the Myers all napped. Later on, Josh, Jeani, Erin and Abby all went down to the beach to swim. The water was cool, but not too cold and the rocks sucked, but once you got passed them it was nice and sandy. Josh swam, while Jeani and Erin sat on the beach in chairs. The surf kept creeping higher and higher and sometimes felt like we were in a tsunami! It was wild! We watched ~50 sailboats sailing by in the Bayview to Mackinaw race! We could see some of the boats rocking and rolling. We found out later that out of 190 entrants, 60 had turned back or withdrew due to broken masts, mechanical issues, seasickness, or difficult weather conditions! Joey drove up to Marysville to give Ellie Abby's bathing suit! Ellie then came to camp, then they tried to go swimming. They hurt their legs and ankles while trying to pull a log from the water. Josh finished reading The Book of Three, of the Prydain Chronicles. After steak/chicken and sliced potato dinner, we went down to the Myers site and sat around the campfire. Abby and Ellie went to a liquor store and Abby bought alcohol for the very first time for more drinks and we got to see the stars and Ellie saw a shooting star!
DAY 3 - Travel home day. When we got home and Jeani tried to put the slides out, the kitchen slide broke. Josh had to pull down the facia and fix it. He had to watch several videos to figure it out and it took a couple of hours to get the slide timing correct. |
