The sites were grassy and sandy. We were the very close to the ocean beach and the view was beautiful. The campground is HUGE! Every night was a "parade" of golf carts and the women-folk rented golf carts for the families. We were elected the charging station for ours and Amy's cart. The weather was another story. The temperature was in the high 90's every day, but with the heat index and humidity it was 110 or higher! The pool and lazy river was no relief as the water was about 85-90 degrees!! They did have a kiddie splash park that the kids enjoyed.
Joey, Nick, Kevin, and David did attempt to fish for crabs in the lagoons near our sites. They caught mostly minnows which they then fed to the Great White Cranes!
Matt, Jake, Josh, Jay, and Brandon golfed at the Wicked Stick and Whispering Pines golf courses.
We took the kids to the dinner show, Pirates Voyage, it is owned by Dolly Parton and is very similar to Dixie Stampede. Joey and Ellie loved it! We also took the kids to Broadway at the Beach, which is a ginormous shopping mall outside and around a small lake. We putt-putted at the Dragon's Lair, and Joey got build his own RC Car at Ridemakerz! We also took the kids to the WonderWorks building. It is a complex of hands-on science exhibits, such as a tesla coil, and chainmail sleeve to make the electricy arc, and a bike that you can pedal upside-down and a bed of nails that you can lay on. Ellie, Amy, Nick, and Alex all went on the 3 story indoor ropes course. They said it was really hot on the upper levels.
The beach was nice and the kids had a blast swimming in the ocean for the first time!! Of course there was some warnings about shark attacks and such. The first few nights the power would go out and we would have to wait for it to come back on or reset the breakers. Amy had to go buy a portable air conditioner for the garage of her RV, because her roof mounted one could not keep up with the heat. It didn't even cool down at night outside!! We went out to eat at a seafood bar and Joey tried crablegs for the first time!! He didn't like them. The families that attended were, Lewtons', Angyals', Thomas', Sickens', and VanSickles', David and Andrea (both kiddies), Maria and Kevin!
