NOTES=VanSickles, and Thomas went on this trip and then the Sickens and Lewtons showed up later. We went to the
Cheeseburger fest for the first time. We also had the brand new awning/canopy get blown over the camper and onto Josh's truck (Tahoe).
No damage to the camper, but 2 huge scratches/dents to my truck and the canopy was a total loss. We took it back to Dick's in Port Huron for a
full refund. Jake stayed with the Thomas' and Alex stayed with the VanSickles. Josh and Jeani were able to go for runs/bike rides each morning.
Overall a great trip. Side Note: the crusty old folks next to the Thomas' kept saying to watch out for the wind, "cuz it'll whomp ya!" We also
took a tour of the lighthouse and we saw multiple shooting stars at night.
This was also the trip where Ellie rode her bike without training wheels for the first time!! Yay Ellie!! |

08/03 (SUN) - Travel day to camp! Got there before the kids did as Ellie and Kayla drove separately from us, as well as Joey and Abby. We arrived just before 1pm and were able to back in, a minor inconvenience. We are on site 29. The camp seems mostly empty and there was some serious haze from the Canadian wildfires. We played 5 way rummmy with Joey, Ellie, Kayla, Jeani and I.
08/04 (MON) - Josh made breakfast burgers and regular burgers for dinner. Still hazy, but the kids decided to go kayaking today around the tip of the thumb. We left from the Port Austin Kayak store and paddled under the Tip of the Thumb rock outcropping, around Turnip Rock, and on to the Sea Caves where Abby found a Petosky Stone and Ellie found some sea glass. We also spotted the Port Austin Reef Light in the distance through the haze. It looked like Dracula's castle or an oil derrick out on the water. Everyone was really sore afterwards but we still got ice cream in Grindstone at the Annex. It was massive and Josh's cone crumbled in his hand. Jeani had to pay .10c for a bowl!!
08/05 (TUE) - Went to Bad Axe today to go shopping at Meijer's/Walmart. On the way back we saw a wind turbine that was had a busted vane. Closer to camp we spotted a bald eagle in the clover eating something! We played Skipbo, Uno, and Clue tonight!
08/06 (WED) - Ellie and Kayla made bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast and blue spaghetti for dinner! Joey, Jeani, and Josh hiked at Port Crescent State Park while Abby, Ellie, and Abby sunbathed at the beach. The hike was nice, we went a distance of over 2 miles through sand and gravel. We also went on a guided tour of the Pointe Aux Barques lighthouse with Larry and Marolyn Becker! We got in free thanks to them as well. We all got to climb the tower and look out over the lake. The view was a bit clearer today. Later we went to a Lavender Farm with everyone and it was nice. Ellie and Kayla went home today.
08/07 (THU) - Joey and Abby made pancakes for breakfast today. We took a drive around the thumb today. We started off in Port Austin, where Josh got his Port Austin Reef stamp, then to Caseville for a preview of the Cheeseburger festival. Then we went to Bayport and on to Bad Axe. On the way to Bad Axe, we drover through a thunderstorm and the aftermath of an accident. Someone was t-boned at an intersection. We made it through the storm and shopped in Bad Axe when the storm hit for the second time. We shopped in a Goodwill and Jeani found a classic Snap babies set that she used to play with as a little girl. We waited for the storm to pass then we went on to Harbor Beach, driving through the storm a third time! We made it to Harbor Beach where Josh got another lighthouse stamp. Joey, Abby, Jeani, and Josh played Clue again. That night the Becker's came over to our campsite and visited at the campfire. They brought Peeps and Twinkies to roast.
08/08 (FRI) - Today was revisit to Port Hope Antiques, then on to McGraw County Park beach for a day of swimming and relaxing. Joey and Abby made tacos for dinner tonight.
08/09 (SAT) - Travel day - Going Home! Pulled out at 11:30 and drove down North Lakeshore Road through the 200 miles of garage sales!
