Thomas - 97 --------- VanSickle - 96 --------- Sicken - 98 --------- Lewton - 105 --------- Martinelli - Cabin 32 |
Day One - Saturday: It took about 9 hours to get here. Left at 7:20EDT and arrived at 3:11CDT. So far not impressed, campsite pads are marginally level and the rest of the campsite is not even close to level. The fire pits are full of plastic and trash!
Sickens arrived couple hours after us, the Lewtons truck, F-350 Diesel, broke down on the way here. Jay had to buy a new vehicle due to the cost of the repairs, $16,000!! Matt had to drive back to the Lewtons and bring their camper to the camp! Poor Matt had to drive for 16 hours this day! Josh took the women folk to the Chamber of Commerce to get brochures and flyers for the area. Kevin and Grandma arrived in the middle of the night. No Deed yet. We had Sonic for dinner, Amy was introduced to the shakes. A very full meal. AND a shake!
Day Two - Sunday: We didnt do too much this day since Grandma and Kevin had to wait for David and Andrea, who did not show up. Matt and Jay went riding on their quad and razor. It was very mountainous and the other riders they encountered did not use the hand signals that should have. It frustrated Matt and Jay. Amy, Jeani, Kelly, Josh, Joey, Ellie, Alex, and Megan all went to the new beach area, Karst Beach. Everyone except Kelly and Josh went on the Wipeout course. The beach was closed later due to Thunders! We also rented golf carts for the week. It is highly recommended to get them! Money well spent. They were used to ferry folks to and from the pools, beach and to each Pokestop along the way. They had 3 and a gym nearby! Much tooling was done by Jeani, Amy, Megan, Alex, Josh and Ellie!
Day Three - Monday: We went on the Diamond Caverns tour with the Lewtons, Martinellis and Thomass. The tour guide was a nice girl with the voice and vocal inflections of Reverend Lovejoy and the body of Olive Oyl. Afterwards we went to Walmart in Glasgow and then relaxed at camp and had steak for dinner. David, Andrea and the girls showed up later in the afternoon finally. Josh also went to the Knife store close by, still had the Nazi Hitler Youth knife for sale.
Day Four - Tuesday: We toured the Crystal Onyx Cave that is close to the camp. The tour guide was a geology nut, it was sort of a budget tour. The corridor leading to the cave entrance was basically all cinder blocks! It was a tight fit for all of us. The railings were very rusty and wet.
We all went to the new salt water pool, the splash area, the old pool (which is deeper btw), and the water slide. Joey and Alex went back to Karst Beach while the adults relaxed at the pool. Later Joey and Alex came back because Alex had the trots. Then later we had Thanksgiving for dinner. Matt and Jay smoked turkeys all day and they turned out really good!
Day Five - Wednesday: Ugh, what a cluster today was. Josh made breakfast burgers and then everyone, except the Martinellis and the Lewtons went to Mammoth Cave National Park. It was a complete circus trying to figure out which tour to do, and for how long... We did the Domes and Dripstones tour, it was fun and pretty. Matt claimed that we did the Frozen Niagara tour 15 years ago. I think he is right. No one thought to call ahead for reservations, except Andrea but she thought we all knew, since she got them all reservations last year. The Thomass went down to see the Original Historic Cave Entrance and they felt the cold air rushing up from the entrance. It was really cool! Dinner was burgers and Chinese chicken salad.
Day Six - Thursday: No caves today. Josh, Matt, Jay, and John all went golfing at Cave Valley Golf Club at Park Mammoth Resort. Sounds fancy but we only paid $10 for golf a piece! That includes a cart! The course was very hilly, and wet (no water or sand hazards), just humid and lots of condensation. The cups were all fill with muddy water. There were a lot of hills and valleys which made the course kind of fun, and challenging. Josh scored a 46, Matt scored a 47, John a 48, and Jay a 53. Later on, Josh, Jeani and Alex all went to Bowling Green, KY to buy some scout patches at the Scout Shop there. They got caught in a flash flood in the parking lot/drive thru for Wendys! The water had risen 2.5 feet and was almost swamping out the cars and trucks that were going through! They were making waves! It was both terrifying and hilarious! For dinner we all went out to El Mazatlan, a Mexican Cuisine restaurant. Jay and Matt had their own private buffet with all of their dishes! It wasnt too bad, but not great.
Day Seven - Friday: Josh, Ellie, Alex and Joey all went to the Knife store, the Antique Store and then drove around Cave City to play Pokmon Go. It rained really hard this day while they were gone. Later in the evening after dinner of Tacos, the guys, along with Ellie, Sylvana and Katherine, all went fishing at Harpers Ridgline Market and Catfish farm. We didnt have to pay full price since we were only staying an hour or so and it was getting dark. We stayed for close to 2 hours and didnt catch anything. Alex did make a new friend, a Hercules Beetle that he named Zeus. Andrea had to leave early and go home for reasons that are not fully understood. It was because she either had to: work OR host a refugee family. We are still not sure which. She also claims (constantly) that David lies when in fact he isnt. He is being a good father and caring for his daughters. When they got bored of one pool, he took them to another pool. Because he didnt tell her, she says He lied to me! What a psycho!
Day Eight - Saturday: The Thomass convinced everyone to go do the Self Guided Tour at Mammoth Cave National Park. Kelly, Megan, Amy, Alex, The Thomass, Kevin, David and Sylvana all went. It was pretty cold down in the cave but still awesome! Jeani, Amy, Ellie, David, Sylvana, and Katherine all went down to the beach/pool area. Matt and Jay went riding again today. Need to get an update.
Day Nine - Sunday: Time to go home! |
